To mitigate the challenges posed by erratic rainfall, many rural households utilise roof catchments to capture every precious drop. For those eager to secure a sufficient water supply, investing in a robust storage system is key, enabling families to have water readily available during drier spells. Some businesses go a step further, installing an array of large storage tanks capable of holding an impressive 260,000 to 300,000 litres of water, ensuring that communities can thrive even amidst the unpredictability of Australian weather. 

Collecting and storing rainwater is not very costly; the cost per litre is less than 10 cents. Installing 260,000 litres of rainwater will cost less than $20,000. A rainwater harvesting system is not just a single container, but a connected network of parts working together, from the moment rain falls until it is used. 

To install a rainwater tank to harvest, there should be a pipe connection from the roof gutter to the tank to collect rainwater. This water tank comes in two systems,

Wet system and Dry system – 

The wet system pipe stretches from beneath the ground to the water tank, serving as a vital conduit for rainwater collected from the roof. As raindrops cascade off the roof, they flow into the gutters, which channel the water towards airtight downpipes. These downpipes then guide the precious rainwater downward, ensuring it flows seamlessly into the storage tank, ready for use.

The dry system pipe extends directly from the roof down to the top of the water tank, forming a crucial connection. During rainy weather, the system comes to life as rainwater cascades into the pipework. Gravity plays its vital role, guiding the collected water down through the downpipes and into the tank below, ensuring that every drop is harnessed efficiently.
